M. Subbramaniam is a Civil Engineer by training. At a very young age he left a traditional prosperous career to initiate a movement of more than 30 years to unionize construction workers in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Kattida Thozhilar Sangham (TMKTS) has since worked for the welfare and social security benefits of the poor, illiterate migrant construction workers.
