Maharashtra Sugarcane Farmers Embrace Regenerative Agriculture

India’s farming workforce stands at 50 million – that’s more than the entire population of most countries. How do we support them all, as well as bring new technologies and practices at scale? Our initiative in sugarcane, with Bayer and Dalmia Bharat Foundation, is making a contribution. Farmers in Maharashtra are embracing regenerative agriculture on a ‘learning by doing’ basis, gaining a greater understanding of soil health, nutrient management, water conservation, integrated pest control, and more. At the end of the project’s first year, we are already thinking about how to scale up and reach our goal of working with 10,000 farmers. There is a lot more to do, but the word is getting out there and this nature-positive project is gaining momentum!
